2024 New Year and Lantern Festival celebration

WCSA, with nearly 2000 Chinese members, is preparing to celebrate both the New Year and the Lantern Festival on February 24th this year with the community.

This celebration will embody the rich and traditional essence of Chinese New Year, with activities including the hanging of couplets and lanterns, cutting window flowers, distributing the calligraphy character for fortune, the giving and receiving of red envelopes, karaoke singing, solving lantern riddles, and engaging in Chinese chess and card games. The festivities will also feature traditional paper cutting, pitching pot games, and dragon-themed face painting for children. Moreover, guests can anticipate DIY Chinese food stations for preparing dumplings and tangyuan, as well as performances that highlight Chinese traditions such as the Dragon Dance, waist drum dance, Chinese drum, cheongsam fashion shows, tai chi softball, and more, all accompanied by scrumptious Chinese meals.

The WCSA New Year and Lantern Festival celebration is focused on bringing community residents together, offering an immersive New Year's experience that's rich in fun, exploration, learning, viewing, and dining. This joyous and propitious gathering acts as a warm current in the cold winter, celebrating and preserving the heritage of Chinese culture in Winnipeg.
