WCSA Celebrates Chinese New Year 2022

Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year in China, and February 1 marks the beginning of the Year of the Tiger. In Chinese culture, tigers are associated with vigor and ambition, daring and courage, enthusiasm and generosity, self-confidence and justice, and a commitment to help others for the greater good.

On Sunday, February 6, the Winnipeg Chinese Seniors Association (WCSA) hosted its online New Year’s celebration event, in which more than 300 families participated via Zoom. The event gathered and broadcasted 35 New Year greeting videos, and featured 18 wonderful performances.

Yan Jiang, President of WCSA, spoke at the event. Premier Heather Stefanson and 24th Lieutenant-Governor Philip Lee sent New Year’s greeting videos. Terry Duguid (MP), Philip Lee, Jon Reyes(MLA and Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration), Janice Lukes (City Councillor), Dr. Patrick Choy (Chair of WCCF), Dr. Xiaofeng Guan (VP of WCCCC) attended this celebration event virtually.
